[Marxism] Cuba repeats demand: "U.S. out of Guantanamo!"

For the second time in a week, Cuban leaders have voiced a demand which,
although a nominal demand for 50 years, has been on the back burner for most of
that time: "U.S. Out!"

In an interview published Thursday by the Russian news agency Itar-Tass, Raul
Castro said Cuba will insist that the Obama administration close the entire
U.S. naval base at Guantanamo Bay — not just the prison camp for suspected
terrorists.

"We demand that not only this prison but also this base should be closed and
the territory it occupies should be returned to its legal owner — the Cuban
people," Castro was quoted as saying, repeating a long-standing demand.

Cuba has called for the US naval base in Guantanamo to be returned to its
territory and wanted a UN torture inspector to visit the island.

Cuban Foreign Minister Felipe Perez Roque on Wednesday said that US President
Barack Obama's decision to close within a year the "war on terror" prison at
the US naval base in Guantanamo Bay was positive but insufficient.

Cuba expects that Obama's decision to close down the Guantanamo prison camp "is
followed by the decision to close down the base and return that territory to
the Cubans," a base that the United States "really does not need for its
security and defense,” Perez Roque said.
