I had a similar reaction to last night's Sixty Minutes
broadcast.  This may not be quite as important as
Walter Cronkite's turning against the Vietnam War
after the Tet Offensive, but I think it's important
enough.  I don't think such a broadcast would have
been thinkable on network television as recently as
a few weeks ago. It seems to me that there is a strong
current within the US ruling class that thinks a
recalibration of the US-Israel relationship is
now in order, just as the publication of the 
Mearsheimer & Walt book on the Israel lobby, was another
indicator.  

This suggests to me, that there may be an effort
over the next several years to rein Israel in,
especially if, as appears likely, if Netanyahu is
returned as PM in next month's general election.
I don't see the US ruling class abandoning Israel
anytime soon, but there might well be an effort
under the new Administration, to clip their wings
a bit.

Last night I rubbed my eyes in amazement at the segment on the 
Palestinians that appeared on CBS television's most prestigious news 
shows. Before I had a chance to track down a video clip this morning, I 
discovered that Lenin's Tomb had a link to it already.

Without exaggeration, this report could have been written by Amy 
Goodman. The Israelis are represented as warlike, expansionist goons 
implementing what the reporter called an "apartheid" state.

I am not sure what this means politically but have a suspicion that it 
represents some kind of turn in elite opinion in the U.S. Anybody who 
watched it, unless they are committed Zionists, will feel nothing but 
disgust for Israel.
