A lot of people confuse this e-mail list with a political party in
RL...and this isn't a problem confined to this list or to "Marxists."
But that it does happen to Marxists is itself a sad commentary on the
pathetic state of the Left.
To state the obvious--which is sometimes helpful--this list
accomplishes much of what might be done in an organization, but will
never be able to substitute itself for a good organization. And, by
the same argument, what it does much of what will not be done by an
organization, no matter how good. I would hope that, even with a
flowering of membership in various groups (and I'm not holding my
breath), it will be good to have some kind of medium where people of
those different currents could meet, mingle, discuss and argue.
The Left at its best hasn't been able to provide that.... The list does.
