Re: [Marxism] Expulsion of Walter
I'm going to have to defend Louis' decision since it seems like many people
are worried about it being some sort of 'dangerous' precedent. This has all
been said before, but I'll say it again because I wholeheartedly agree. For
one thing, this is temporary; Walter will be back if he wants to participate
in what Marxmail is intended to do. Considering what it seems Louis wants
this list to achieve, there is probably already much more inane discussion
than Louis would like, but when I read what Walter posted, I too felt he had
crossed a line though I wasn't about to say anything. If you want a more
open forum, they exist elsewhere. Others have been unsubbed for different
offenses and have come back in the short time I've been on Marxmail.
Secondly, despite being a great admirer of the Cuban Revolution, I think
views such as Walters that are perhaps too uncritical do the revolution more
harm than good. Most importantly, however, as Louis said, this is not the
place to be defending Obama or Mbeki or Lula. It is a WASTE OF TIME for
Marxists of any color, when the tasks at hand require us to organize a
direct challenge to Obama and ignore pro-capitalist politicians in the 3rd
world dressed up as progressives or nationalists. We should be talking about
a way forward for grassroot, independent 3rd party politics (probably at the
state level, the more I think about it) when Obama fails to deliver what he
has promised. The cracks in the capitalist system are now deeper than even
the catastrophists imagined and we should NOT be wasting our time talking
about how Obama plans to try and patch them up, despite what Fidel Castro
(with all due respect) thinks about him.
