[Marxism] Doug Henwood on gloom

DH: But less exuberant sorts also said some troublesome things.
âWeâ shouldnât be handing money over to Wall
Streetâinstead we should be spending it on schools and green jobs.
Yes, it would be lovely to spend lots of money on schools and green
jobs. Weâre even going to get some of thatâbut it wouldnât address
the financial crisis. A busted credit system is a very serious problem
for everyone, not just the bourgeoisie

^^^
CB: However, now that those
Wall Street
financial oligarchic institutions
in fact_got_ so much
money, the working class's tribunes
can raise the demand that the
working class just get money for
its debts , too. Let the bourgeoisie
come up with a reason why that
shouldn't be, not the working
class' organic intellectuals.

^^^
Itâs one thing to misread history;
itâs another to use that
misreading to misread the
present. The crisis is real.
The credit markets are frozen.

^^^
CB: This is a reason to give or
loan money to the Big banks
That already happened, so
the debate on whether it
should have happened is moot.
That's "history", now. As to
the present, the fact that the
banking crisis is (was) real
is not a reason not to give money
to the working class people ,
whose crises are also real.

^^^
Itâd be nice to see some social spending and redistribution too, but
itâs no surprise that this gang isnât proposing that. Infrastructure
spending, green energy, and aid to state and local governments are all
good things, and will have a salutary economic effect, too.

^^^
CB: On redistribution,
Pelosi has
proposed ending the
Bush tax
cuts for the rich, a change
on her part.

^^^
the economy will grind to a halt.
^^^
CB: Since those big banks have
already got money and more is
on the way, there's nothing else
the federal government can do
to avoid this,no ? What else does
one propose to avoid the
economy grinding to a halt, since
the money to big banks approach
has and is being carried out
to the max ?

^^^

Thatâs not in our present politics, but politics could change.

^^^
CB: Especially since, politics
already have
changed, Rip Van Winkle.
We told you so.

^^^
total disaster

^^^
CB: What would be the details
of "total disaster" ? Mass starvation ?
food riots ? Anarchy ?

^^^
Itâs going to get easier to win recruits as the ranks of the
disappointed swell.

^^^
CB: Recruits to do what ? to
what organization ?
