[Marxism] Bailout the People!

Bailout the People!

Which side are you on?

Demonstrate at the State Capitol

During Gov. Granholm's State of the State Address

Tuesday, February 3, 2009, 6:00 p.m.

State Capitol, Lansing

Demand a Declaration of a State of Economic Emergency in Michigan

Immediate Two-Year Moratorium to Halt Foreclosures, Evictions and Utility
Shut-offs

The economic disaster facing the people of Michigan gets worse by the day.
500,000 mostly union, industrial jobs have been lost in the past six years. It
is projected that up to 250,000 more jobs will be lost in the next two years.
Tens of thousands of people in our state are losing their homes to
foreclosures, being evicted and having their utilities shut off.

While many people are hopeful that the Obama economic plan will provide jobs
and help poor and working people over the long run, the people of Michigan need
emergency relief now to survive this economic catastrophe. We demand that Gov.
Granholm exercise her authority under MCL 10.31 to declare a State of Economic
Emergency in Michigan and place an Immediate Two-Year Moratorium on all
Foreclosures, Evictions and Utility Shut-offs. These actions will not cost the
state one penny. They will allow the people to survive until the economy turns
around. It's just a question of Granholm putting the survival of the workers
and poor ahead of the greedy banks and corporations.

This year's State of the State demonstration is especially critical in light of
recent events in Lansing. On the last day of the legislative session in
December, with the support of Governor Granholm, Senate Banking Chair Randy
Richardville and the Michigan Bankers Association, a bill was almost passed
that would have shortened the redemption period for those facing foreclosure in
Michigan, thus quickening the process whereby the banks toss people from their
homes.

How can it be that in Michigan, the state hardest-hit by foreclosures and
economic crisis, our governor and legislature are actually coming up with bills
that worsen conditions for the people?! It shows the complete disconnect of
the politicians in Lansing from the reality facing poor and working people.

We must bring a large crowd to Lansing for the State of the State Address to
insure that the voice of poor and working people is heard. Join us at this
critical demonstration. Call the Moratorium NOW! Coalition office at
313-887-4344 for more information and transportation from Detroit.
