Re: [Marxism] Gaza-After the vigils are over
I literally have no idea who these people are talking about:
1) a failure to denounce and reject zionism
What? This is a central feature of the opposition in this country.
2) a narrow reliance on marches, rallies, vigils and protests that have no
impact
Yes, by all means, let's call for a general strike. Or start a military assault
on the Pentagon. Sorry, folks, given the state of power of the left in this
country, this is what we've got. This is like the people who complain that our
protests against the war in Iraq didn't stop the war. No, they didn't. That's
objective reality. It doesn't mean we should do nothing. But thinking that "if
only we had done X, we could have stopped the war, or stopped the assault on
Gaza," is just fantasy.
The marches and rallies and other protests against the assault on Gaza have
been way beyond those against the invasion of Iraq, in the sense of happening
day after day for weeks. If anyone (including the authors of this tract) think
they have a better way to "have an impact," by all means, come lead the
movement and show us how its done.
3) a co-opted and dangerous call for âunityâ between colonizing zionists
and colonized Palestinians
What? When are where did this occur exactly?
4) a diffusion of resistance by channeling opposition into forms of protest
that do not threaten the status-quo of occupation and war.â
Also nonsense. The opposition *challenges* the status quo because it directly
confronts imperialism. That it does not "threaten" imperialism is an outgrowth
of the strength (weakness) of the movement, not of any tactics or strategies it
is pursuing.
