TV comedians and talk show losts like Jon Stewart, 
Stephen Colbert, and for that matter, David Letterman,
and Jay Leno, are quite expert at gauging public
opinion, since they don't want to either fall
behind it, nor run too much ahead of it.  So if
people like Jon Stewart now think (indeed know)
that they can get away with taking pokes at Israel,
then this is a phenomenon of some significance.
