White phosphorus is often used as an anti-material/anti-armor munition. 
It has also been marketed as anti-personnel and used that way by the 
USAF in Vietnam, and, I assume, in other military adventures by the US.

It *seems* from the video that I've seen that in fact the Israeli's say 
they are using it the way they say they are, even if denying it's 
white-phosphorus, which it clearly is.

I've never seen previously WP used in an 'air-burst' mode like this. 
There is a picture of it being dropped in air-burst mode on a US navy 
ship by the US Army Air Corp in a 1921 test on Wikipedia. It's usually 
dropped in bombs, hitting a target, burning it's way through armor. It 
is quite a different explosion when used in this 'formal' manner of 
anti-armor. There is a lot of video from Vietnam that shows it's being 
dropped in multiple bombs in much larger explosions than we've seen the 
Israelis do recently in Gaza.

Also, it should be noted that the Wiki entry also notes it as being used 
as "smoke-screening agent" which is what the Zionist army claims it is 
doing.

I suspect that in *any* form in closed and crowded conditions such as 
those in Gaza, its "collateral" effects can be devastating, even if it's 
not "intentional".
