Re: [Marxism] Towards A Left
Doing politics in the US is like trying to input data while someone's
leaning on the reset button.
A couple of points, though...
The public already has the right impulses on things like war, health
care, the big environmental problems like global warming, corporate
bailouts, etc. This is a really different circumstance than was the
case even a few years back. Not that long ago, the pundits regularly
drooled about getting away from "the Vietnam syndrome."
The problem is that the public just does not know what needs to be
done to bring about change. Of course, we don't really know either
what will mobilize that progressive sentiment and what form that
mobilization will take.
Still, people on this list are just not in a position to comprehend
directly the level of political ignorance that exists on this level.
During the election campaign, some polls indicate that 2/3 of the
electorate didn't even know that anyone other than McCain and Obama
were running. The discussions that took place here about which
alternatives we should support would have been incomprehensible to
most voters.
