Re: [Marxism] Keanu Reeves
I have learned to like Keanu Reeves. He seems to be a deeply "noirish" actor
who specializes in the very specialized territory of people who have deep
and strong emotions, but CANNOT express them. This is an important, quite
common, and actually pretty dangerous type of person. I am happy for him
that he has not yet been dragged into court for beating up a girl friend. I
tend to believe and hope that this is because he does not do this.
But he portrays a type who could do this. And does it well.
I became convinced of this when I watched Reeves in a movie called
Constantine, usually listed with the rating "BOMB" in most movie manuals.
His performance, along with the general Manichaean conception (earth belongs
by right to the devil, heaven to God), really grabbed me. It was really
classic noir adapted to this time. I also thought he was good in Speed, and
a couple other movies.
I know this will place me as a connoisseur of trash, but this is an
exaggeration (though not a lie).
And The Wild Bunch is still a great movie, not just glorified trash. Take my
word for it and see for yourself.
