Well yes and no-- Beyonce certaily burns up the celluloid-- emotionally as
Etta, but physically as Beyonce so it's not really that great a
performance-- the role is tailored for her.
The truly great performances, and there are 2 in this film: Eamonn Walker
as Howlin' Wolf, and Columbus Short as Little Walter. That scene where
Walter is recording "My Babe" had women in the theater literally jumping up
and screaming with delight.
