ended in 1975 when the NVA overran Saigon and the American Embassy had
to be evacuated by helicopter.

Any other interpretation implies that the "Vietnamisation" of the
conflict ended American involvement.

Any such interpretation would also imply that pulling out Americaqn
troops would end the occupation of Iraq even if a Quisling regime backed
up by a mercenary army (masquerading as private security services,
mostly American) remained in place.
