Re: [Marxism] Organizers In -- And Beyond -- the Obama Campaign

The problem Obama may face in 2010 may turn out to be very similar to
Clinton's in 1994. Clinton managed a very good DLC-type win,
appealing to bored Reagan Democrats that didn't want to go Republican
again. And he kept his promises to the barest minimum. When he
failed to deliver on them, enough of the base that elected him decided
to sit out the off-year election.

Obama's actually promised far less than Clinton in specifics and what
he has promised is actually not what you'd think would appeal to his
base--talk of austerity, practical subsidies to business, etc. I
suspect that those promises will be a bit easier to deliver and may
hit his base a little harder.

Locally, the Obama people are all over, but the core are full-timers
and my impression is that money's keeping it all together. It should
be interesting to so.

Hopefully, those who see the promise of the campaign as something that
has created a dynamic for change will prove correct. Let's keep our
fingers crossed.
