[Marxism] How long will the market gains last?
The issue is what the bankers will do with the money? Will they renegotiate
with the 6 million threatened with eviction so that they can stay in their
homes a while longer?
Right within a few blocks of my dump, there are a number of small project,
that have been frozen solid for several weeks -- a big deligrocery, a house
or apartment building with garages, a couple of stores on the main drag in
the Ironbound section of Newark. Will the money flow to the small
businesspeople involved to restart these projects?
Will GM get the capital to survive a while longer.
Will the whole thing create a crazy new bubble of one kind or another?
Will the flow of cash be used to slow the movement into recession?
Or will the banks still run scared of loans because of the recession
economy?
Yes, this is in a sense fictional capital but it is also actual money as
long as the currencies stay afloat. Whether a real upswing can be created
and for how long depends a lot on how it is used. It can have some effect
on the real economy and slow the drift toward a historical crisis, although
I don't see the drift toward a historical crisis being decisively reversed.
The very fact of the governments pouring so many millions into their coffers
can only be read as an implicit to flood them with money anytime they hit
this kind of brick wall. It seems to me that that has to revive confidence
somewhat even if the confidence turns out to be illusory.
Fred Feldman
If they run scared and hold tight to the money, the bankers will rapidly
become dangerously politically unpopular. They look bad now, but it could
get much worse.
