One of the things that stood out at the Toronto meeting last week was the
discussion around speculative capital being a "breading ground for fraud".
While most of the talk in the main stream media is about trying to fix the
problem by pumping billions of dollars into the system, there's no talk of
investigating the same people who caused this crisis. For now it seems that
politicians are able to contain the crisis in the financial sector, but as
the polls are showing, the Canadian ruling class is divided and we're
heading into a second straight minority government.
It is up to the working class and popular forces to make this into a
political crisis. We will not stand by while our money is given over to
crooks. We have to stop the evictions and foreclosures. We have a public
health system. It is time for a public banking system.
This moment of economic crisis reminds me of a book I read many years ago
about what progressive people did in the 1930's in England. The book is "Our
Flag Stays Red" by Phil Piratin. Google the title - there's quite a few
references to the book (over 1000). I think it's worth a (re)read.
pance.
