[Marxism] business as usual
Hi everyone,
I'm French, so the issue of government being a stakeholder in the
banking and industrial sector is nothing new to me. It only hearkens
back to the 50s and 60s when the French capitalists and the Gaullist
governement had "an understanding". All the major banks, the railways,
the auto-manufacturers (Renault), the energy (TOTAL-ELF), etc. were 51%
state owned. Which didn't do one bit of difference to the way the French
worker felt. Because state-owned means exploitation of workers just the
same as privataly owned.
Honestly, we've been through this before (1848, 1872, 1895, 1929, 1973,
1981, 2001,...) and many's the time state-ownership has been put forward
as the solution to our woes. It has always been a trick to con the
working class into quieting down and resuming production.
In America, things might seem different, but basically, the state is the
main buttress of capitalist rule. Without the state they flounder.
No more tax reliefs, no more investment, no more careful control of the
work force ....
