[Marxism] need for an anti-eviction movement

Once again I agree with Joaquin on this issue.
I don't know if it's been on this list yet, but the key part of a
recent story at Socialist Worker is brief:
http://socialistworker.org/2008/09/30/refusing-be-put-out
"...the Louis family fought back and organized an eviction blockade
with the neighborhood organization City Life/Vida Urbana (CLVU) on
September 22. Over 45 people came out to picket outside of--and
literally block--the entrance to the Louis home. The blockade was deemed
victorious at 10 a.m., an hour after the eviction was to take place, and
word from the constable for the bank was that he had not received notice
to evict the family that morning.
"By leafleting and canvassing target neighborhoods for foreclosure, CLVU
has been able to work with families to prevent evictions. In the past
year, this kind of organizing has prevented at least three other evictions.

We should discuss, on or off line, how to try to replicate this
elsewhere! This doesn't
mean we don't need a unified antiwar movement, or an emergency response network
against ICE/Gestapo raids, or propaganda against the bailout, etc. It
means this is
where immediate organizing could make a difference -- including
inspiring folks taking
up the other tasks just mentioned, and getting their support for this
effort (and vice
versa).

The time is right, the moment is now to see if it is possible to
organize a movement around the
"single issue" of foreclosures/evictions...

The time is ripe. People are riveted by the economic news and demoralized by
the feeling there is nothing they can do. Such a movement can potentially
become the vehicle for their outrage and beginning to cohere working people
on a class political basis.
