[Marxism] Campaign for a NO on bailout?
I was wondering why there has been, to my knowledge, no talk on the left
(progressive, Democratic, liberal...) about pressuring congress to say no to
the bailout plan. I heard some Democrats make vague statements about including
some provisions and moneys to help homeowners and not only bankers, but why
should we do the bailout at all has not been even asked.
I am not immediately clear on what a non-bailout economic situation would look
like. Would it be worse than the one we will get if we take $500 billion
dollars out of the hands of workers and consumers and give it to the top one
percent so they can continue to play their games and suck off the labor of
others? This is being presented as the only option or else: Armageddon. What
about the government buying the failing mortgages with a 1/2 trillion dollars
and not giving it to those who have already squandered the next 20 years of
prosperity?
I know this is all very left populist and not very realistic, but why is no one
making this demand? Did I miss it?
Brad
