Of course, we shouldn't uncritically accept any opinions and should be
continually testing our own.
I would say that corporate heads and their representatives in government pay
less attention to the "important question" of whether capitalism will last
forever and more attention to immediate (what you consider "subsidary")
concerns like costs, revenues, and profits. It's through this prism that
they view China - whether or not it will contribute to their bottom line
and, on a more general level, to the growth and stability of the world
capitalist economy. So far, on balance, they believe it will.
I don't think it's a matter of being wise or unwise (although, as in our
case, I'm sure they have their share of "utter idiots") so much as
self-interest and often survival having a habit of concentrating the mind.
