Remembering the role of the Maoists in Portugal in 1975-76, where they
supported fascist rioters against the Communist Party and a left government,
I'm not at all surprised.

Fighting fascists by supporting a "democratic" government has alwas been
disastrous for the working class and the left. I'd argue that the left should
be organizing the working class and the small farmers to fight independently of
the government against the fascists and, especially, the big landowners by
(1) breaking up the road blockades,
(2) blockading the export of soya and other food or food-displacing crops, and
(3) seizing the large capitalist farms (especially those owned by
multinational corporations and/or obtained as part of the Menem saqueo).
