Correct me if I'm mistaken, but wouldn't the death penalty on child
rape, if it is defined as statutory rape, then also (or probably more
often) apply to e.g. a 19 year old having sex with his/her 17 year old
partner -- even if entirely consensual (say in a state like California
where the age of consent is 18)?

It seems to me that the hard line against child rape particularly
would be especially welcome by those who want to see sexual activity
of young people controlled and restricted.
