[Marxism] two articles
The bourgeois principle of equivalence rules out
capital punishment for child rape on the grounds
that the state cannot take a life if the guilty
has also not taken a life. If one rejects the bourgeois principle
of equivalence, however, then the leftist critics do
not have grounds for considering the death penalty
for rape of an eight year old
child by a three hundred pound man disproportionate
or cruel and unusual. The leftist critics are more bourgeois
than Obama--they have no sense that their outrage
is predicated on bourgeois values. That point has not been responded to.
If one had two daughters as Obama does, the nonsensical
application of the principle of equivalence to child rape would
be clear. It is not clear that it is nonsense to the Supreme
Court dissenters or the leftist critics.
Obama himself is opposed to immunity even if the
majority of senators won't allow him to express that opposition
without giving up law enforcement tools that as the standard
bearer of the party he must support . The American people
will have no patience for any perceived softness towards
terrorism on the ultra liberal grounds of constitutional liberty.
Obama is moving the country towards a greater appreciation
of civil liberties. He is creating room for civil
libertarians to argue with the American people on his
website. He is an ardent defender of habeas corpus.
The Gitmo lawyers have endorsed his
candidacy.
A symbolic vote for Nader or McKinney would be irresponsible.
