I read the guidelines for new posters before posting, and this is the spirit in
which I'm participating here, having 'years of study and experience' behind me.

Hey, I've taken part on many internet forums over the years and you're right,
it does take a little time to get used to the norms, but I'm willing to give it
a go. I'm fascinated by what different people understand to be 'the Left'.
Particularly those from a US (I'm a Limey btw). What is the left?
