Of course the Keynesian consensus that the American Right (& Churchill &
MacMillan in the UK as well) signed up to has to be seen within the context
of the Cold War.  We will only get a return or to be precise a retreat
towards Keynesianism by the elites when they fear appropriation.  That is
something moderates cannot or will not grasp.

Moreover I dare say that if Tricky Dick had come to power in the Volcker
period he would have been as ruthless against the welfare state as anyone.
