I make the point that there was no imperialism in 1848 and Walter
replies that I "don't like" what M&E said in 1848, as if we were
talking about my personal tastes. Are we wasting our time trying to
have a discussion or debate with Walter here? It is very, very bad if
we have somebody who is the center of attention here on many days who
refuses to engage with what you are saying. One of the world's
leading Marxist scholars on Southern Africa has announced that he is
ignoring Walter's messages because he doesn't want to waste his time
and now we have Michael Lebowitz joking that Walter might have early
Alzheimers.

I really have to think hard about the law of diminishing returns on
this 3 year struggle around the ANC, Lula, China, etc. If the
antagonist in a debate willfully refuses to hear what you are saying
or puts words in your mouth, what is the point?
