Re: [Marxism] Confusion about Israeli leak on Bush "plan" to attack Iran
Fred raises an interesting question, probably unintentionally:
"Note that the Sadr army is again
retreating without much fighting before the Iraqi army -- without US troops
-- in Sadr city."
I read the news reports carefully because I was thinking about blogging on this
very subject but haven't yet done the complete research. The stories I read
talked about being "accompanied by U.S. forces" and also talked about the use
of
"tanks." Now, as far as I know, the U.S. hasn't yet turned over any tanks to
the
Iraqi Army, but I'm not sure about that. My sneaking suspicion, definitely
unconfirmed, is that U.S. Army-driven tanks were at the very heart of this
"occupation" of Sadr City.
Which, by the way, is not to say that al Sadr didn't actually withhold
resistance under the influence of Iran, as Fred suggests - I tend to think
that's true. But I also know for a fact that every time the initial press
reports are designed to make us think the "Iraqi troops" accomplished some
task,
the truth which comes out later is that that is far from the case.
