I first presented this paper in 1982. I had not heard about Lubasz. I
would not be surprised if he used my stuff. It was not so much that
Carey was a protectionist. It went further. Carey was trying to get
the Tribune to support Russia in the Crimean War because Russia opposed
England. In the paper I go deeper into their conflict.
