Iran should be supported in its conflicts with
imperialism. Iranian national sovereignty is 
central to the struggle today.

The relentless hostility which is currently
propagated by some on the left against Iran is
proof, if more was needed of the thoroughly
reactionary nature of "independent" thinking 
which some on the left like to take pride in
exercising. 
 
Independent thinking is good. Iranian society
is a contradictory one where the class struggle
pertains. Analyzing the conflicting interests
and trends within Iranian society can be both
interesting and useful. I suspect most of this
is based on ignorance and blind hatred, but 
let's not discount all speculation, of course.

Discounting the obviously anti-imperialist 
links which Iran has made with other forces
all over the world, the leftist Iranophobes
provide a sadly eloquent self-portrait.

Fetishizing "independent thinking" is really
something quite different. The consequences 
of such "independent thinking" by a few from
the political left reflects the pressure of 
the drumbeat of propaganda war against Iran
here in the heartland of imperialism. 

The review from SOCIALIST WORKER shows a
better understanding:

  in ISCI, but also the Sadrists--in the hopes 
  of positive relations with whoever wins the 
  intra-Shia battle.

Those who are constantly attacking Obama
over Iran, who is thoroughly reactionary,
while engaging in their own little political
anti-Iranian jihad, play out their own little
role in today's social and political battle of
ideas. Which side are they on?
