Re: [Marxism] Counterpunch Swift-Boats McCain

Fred comments:
Actually I never characterized Counterpunch as "rightist proimperialist", as
Eli attempts but fails because of technical difficulties to misquote me as
saying. (In the process, also dropping a comma between the two words he
attempted to quote.)

I argued that this expose has a rightist, pro-imperialist thrust, and I
think that is true no matter what candidate it is aimed at supporting.

Eli also disagrees with my characterization of Counterpunch as "a mélange of
left-liberalism and anti-Bush rightism." This simply indicates, as his
contribution clearly suggests, that he is ignorant of and indifferent to
this publication. He has a perfect right to ignore Counterpunch. But he
shouldn't argue about its character with people who follow it.

He also challenges but makes no argument against my estimate that this
expose will not be effective against McCain. As I said, I think yelling and
screaming at McCain for collaborating with Vietnamese officials will sound
deeply opportunistic, insincere, and self-serving coming from left-liberals
or leftists. Rightists can spew hatred and slime at Jane Fonda for her
sympathy with the Vietnamese, for example, and be credible doing it because
the hatred for her acts of solidarity is real.

Objectively, this kind of propaganda is movement towards, not away from, the
imperialist warmakers. I urge staying away from it.
