Perhaps Ruthless misunderstood Paul's point. It isn't that democracy is not
worth defending (I think it definitely is, and my guess is that Paul
agrees), but that Western elites often act in extremely undemocratic ways.
Paul is right to criticize those Western 'Decent leftists and liberals' who
condemn Eastern tyranny, 'Islamofascism', etc, while at the same time
supporting the West's most brutally anti-democratic policies.
[I am using the expression 'the West' as a shortcut only. There is no such
thing as a united 'West', or 'East', or 'South', beyond temporary
alliances].
