Re: [Marxism] Role of Socialists (was The Chinese occupation of Haiti)

First, feel free to change subject lines. We're free on Marxmail!

Second, there are national questions among even advanced capitalist
countries, which Russia really isn't yet. It would like to be, but
isn't. It's more advanced than some, and less than others.

Consider the Helms-Burton and other US laws which impose fines on
foreign compies which do business with Cuba. Those laws violate the
national sovereignty of even imperialist countries from Canada to
Switzerland and etc.

As to the role of socialists in what are at times called "advanced"
capitalist states, "the enemy is always at home" is one good place to
begin our considerations.

Canadians are lucky that they live in a country with normal relations
with Cuba. I sometimes get the idea Canadians don't fully appreciate
just what an advantage they have with this simple act of Canadian
national sovereignty, since my Canadian acquaintences often complain
about the Canadian government. Yet they have advantages which we in
the US don't have, and to the extentent that Canada collaborates or
doesn't even protest the actions of Washington against Candians in
relation to Cuba, they're surrendering some of Canada's sovereignty.

PANCE STOJKOVSKI writes:
To the extent that Russia is battling US Imperialism, Russian
Marxists defend their own national state. Apparently, they're even
invited on state controlled media to voice their opinions. But when
it comes to other working class issues - they're bitter rivals.

I changed the subject to "Role of Socialists". What do other comrades
think? What is the role of socialists in advanced capitalist states?
in formerly socialist states? in under-developed (or developing) states?

Pance.
