Thank you for the great article Néstor. I've been
studying it carefully - and I agree with most of what
you say (the things I disagree with are not of great
consequence). But I think we have to keep the
"Socialism Card" near us so we can play it one of
these days - no?
And if we're serious about playing the Socialism card
- what do we say to the Chinese working class? Yes -
support your national state in its battle against US
Imperialism (you notice I stayed away from the
contentious labels) - but the day will come when the
Chinese working class will have to confront it's own
exploiters. Or maybe they can do both things at the
same time.
Before someone accuses me of dictating to others
half-way across the world - it seems to me this is the
same policy we pursue in Canada. We support the
national bourgeoisie in its fight for Canadian
sovereignty (although lately it seems the bourgeoisie
has given up that fight and completely allied itself
with Bush et al).
But, as you know, there are other issues beside
sovereignty - like that business of breaking the
chains of the wage-slave system.
A few days ago, Boris Kagarlitsky spoke about the
current situation in Russia -- video is available
here:

I think he said pretty much the same thing. To the
extent that Russia is battling US Imperialism, Russian
Marxists defend their own national state. Apparently,
they're even invited on state controlled media to
voice their opinions. But when it comes to other
working class issues - they're bitter rivals.
I changed the subject to "Role of Socialists". What do
other comrades think? What is the role of socialists
in advanced capitalist states? in formerly socialist
states? in under-developed (or developing) states?
Pance.
