I think there's some overthinking going on here. Louis asked what Facebook
is useful for. The answer is, not that much. It's a networking tool. It can
become a distraction, a major distraction. But it can also be useful for
catching up with old friends. On balance, having recently joined it, I have
found it mainly silly and useless, but also somewhat helpful for staying in
touch with friends and family, especially those younger than me, for whom it
is a or even the major form of interaction. Generally speaking, Louis, if
you feel like you're in touch with the people you want to be in touch with,
the only thing interesting about Facebook is the sociological phenomenon; it
won't be all that useful to you.
