Re: [Marxism] The Chinese occupation of Haiti

In fact, as against Paula's pipe dreams of an imperialist Brazilian
Ãlite, involvement in the Caribbean is FRONTALLY AGAINST the desires
of such Ãlite.

The real intentions of the Brazilian oligarchy (a very particular kind
of oligarchy, BTW, but I won't be long on this) are to contain their
expansion to South America. This Ãlite is more Paulista than
Brazilian, and their wish is to bring every South American country to
the service of SÃo Paulo and associated areas much in the way they put
all of Brazil -but for the states in the South and South East, and the
latter only in part- to the service of the interests of SÃo Paulo.

This can be seen -adamantly- in their Bolivian policies.

They HATE to meddle with issues Caribbean, where in fact they were
forced to intervene due to American pressure (not that too much
pressure was needed, but the fact remains that the Brazilian
"imperialists" -in fact, they are too far away from that- wouldn't
have gone to Haiti on their own desire). By the way, getting involved
in Haiti can provide the Brazilian government with a serious argument
to "get involved" with Cuba, a most serious issue in fact for the
Paulistas and reactionaries in Brazil in general.

BTW: here in Argentina, and elsewhere in Castilian America, the ghost
of "Brazilian imperialism" is a favorite toy of the most reactionary
right-wing "nationalists". Every truly national-popular regime has
supported ALLIANCE with Brazil. Every pro-imperialist regime has
backed FEAR AND COMPETITION with Brazil.
