"People are bitter in small towns," Frank told the Huffington Post.
"People are bitter everywhere. I don't know if you have seen the
stock market -- people are bitter about their situation. It doesn't
strike me as a very controversial statement."
Of course, it wasn't the fact that he said people were bitter that was
controversial, it was what came afterwards, the bit about clinging to guns,
religion and opposition to immigration. So Frank is starting with a bit of a
straw man here.
The real problem isn't that Obama identified people's "bitterness" (I don't
know
if that's really the best word to describe things, but anyway...), but that he,
like every politician clinging to capitalism, isn't capable of identifying the
real problem and the real solution.
