Re: [Marxism] Bedia Akartïïïïïïïïïïïïïïïïï
Item 1: I have, for many years, been fond of Middle-Eastern music and
its ecstatic rhythm patterns - beginning with collegiate adventures to clubs in
Boston (yes the belly-dancing was nice, but what always intrigued me was the
rhythm and the instrumentation). But I also developed a distaste for amplified
-
if you will "modernized" - recordings.
So I wonder if you have any tips about "authentic", "non-westernized",
"non-amplified" recordings of original turkish, lebanese, egyptian,
that-is-to-say "Middle Eastern" music?
Item 2: As a friend of Turkey, how do you interpret the Muslim decree
against music? Is this just an arch-conservative interpretation of the Koran,
or does it go to a broader audience? And more, if the future of the Middle-
East is toward greater adherence to the Koran, what of its musical
heritage?
