What
kind of social
system does Dalai Lama aim at? This is the question.>
The Dalai Lama has said that he favors socialism over capitalism and wants
to abolish the office of the Dalai Lama in the future. I have heard prominent
Tibet teachers say the next Buddha or fully awakened human being will be an
ordinary socialist. I once heard a Burmese Buddhist monk once say that
Buddhism is the only religion that uses religious practice to leave religion
behind--in other words to end the need to worship anyone or anything. Buddhism
is
compatible with Marxism as Joel Kovel has stated in his essay in the
collection of essays Marxism in the Postmodern Age: Confronting the New World
Order.
by Antonio Callari, Stephen Cullenberg, Carole C. Biewener. The nationalism of
Tibet should be honored by China--anyone who has talked to Chinese citizens
about Tibet knows the depth of ignorance about the history and culture of
Tibet. I spent two months in China in the 1980s and saw many positive
developments in China that were a legacy of Maoism and some very negative
things that
were lingering as well including racism against Tibetans on the one hand and
denying that Tibetans had another culture at all.

"We need a moral philosophy which can speak significantly of Freud and Marx
and out of which aesthetic and political views can be generated. We need a
moral philosophy in which the concept of love, so rarely mentioned now, can
once again be made central." Iris Murdoch
