As you say, the problem is at the receiving end, OK in your
Thunderbird, not OK in the Web archiver MHonArc which prepares the
messages for the Web display at <http://www.marxmail.org/maillist.html>
and encloses the message bodies with a "<pre>...</pre>" pair, which
means it is preformatted. When the sending mail user agent relies on the
receiving mail user agent to format the body lines according to the
preferences of the receiver, i.e. sends a paragraph as one big line,
those unreadable monster lines appear in the Web presentation.
Please make sure that the latest version of MHonArc of June 2006 is
being used, and check the configuration possibilites at

You could e.g. include
<-- leave the formatting to the web browser -->
<MIMEArgs>
m2h_text_plain::filter; nonfixed
</MIMEArgs>
or
<-- Make sure lines are no longer than 80 characters -->
<MIMEArgs>
m2h_text_plain::filter; maxwidth=80
</MIMEArgs>
Also have a look at RFC 2646 "The Text/Plain Format Parameter"
<http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc2646.txt>
What the receiving user agent cannot solve, is when a sender includes
a text from another source by copy and paste into her or his outgoing
message, and that mail program then "fixes" lines being too long before
they go out, thus creating a zig-zag formatting. My recommendation to
all contributors: check your message before sending it, best put it in
the outbasket first, instead of sending it right away, and re-open the
message to check the formatting.
