[Marxism] WSJ: The Cuban Art Revolution

Nice full-page feature with all of the illustrations
on a single web-page. This is a major article about
the growth in Cuba art in the international market.
The link to the WSJ article is printed at the end.

However, earlier today Rosa Lowinger, art conservator
from Los Angeles and author of TROPICANA NIGHTS sent
me a dissenting note. She says:

"Cuba will BE the art market??? where was this reporter
during the 2000 Havana Biennial, when serious collectors
from MoMA, LACMA, SF MOMa, the Walker Art Center, you
name it... literally fought each other for works by
major cuban contemporary artists. This is such old
news it's almost comical to see if written as if it's
something new. The Cuban art revolution has been going
strong since the HAvana bienniel of 1994, when the
NY dealer Barbara Gladstone discovered Kcho for the
outside world. There have been big Cuban shows at
all the major museums. If anything, Cuban art is
already so mainstream as to need a new shot in the
arm to become hot again.
