What about the other people (colonial settlers) there? What about the
"other people" in the West Bank? Autonomy is not "cultural"--it is
political, it is self rule. The Chinese
claim to Tibet is totally Imperial, based on claims by the Chinese
*Empire*. The Tibetans (at least those not made suicidally desperate
by Stalinist colonial repression) recognize that defense and foreign
relations in a highly strategic area are sensitive to any (even a
democratic) China, and that in the 21st century close economic
relations with China are necessary to Tibet. Meanwhile Stalinist
apologists whine about "theocrats" while arrogating to themselves the
right to put their own puppets into strictly religious positions
(Panchen Lama)--did Lenin or Trotsky ever suggest that the Soviet
republic should choose the Orthodox hierarchy (As the Tsars before and
after Lenin did--but only sub rosa, not shamelessly like their Chinese
disciples)?
