[Marxism] Rapid Response Network thwarts ICE raid

Dear friends,



The NJ-NY Rapid Response Network hotline is up and functioning! We  
have received excellent publicity on Spanish-language TV and radio,  
posters are going up, and we have had our first success in stopping  
an ICE raid.



However, we are swamped with calls. First, about one third of our  
calls are coming from outside our area—from across the country in  
fact. We really need to know if other hotlines are functioning in  
other parts of the country, especially Florida , Virginia , Los  
Angeles, San Francisco , Chicago and Boston and what the phone  
numbers are. We have the interest of nationally-linked Spanish- 
language media and would very much like to help publicize other  
hotlines so that the system will function well everywhere. We have  
heard that at least in LA and Boston such hotline are up and running  
but we don’t know any numbers. Please, if you know these numbers,  
tell us!



Second, we can use some more phone volunteers. Volunteers have to be  
fluent in Spanish and preferably English as well, but otherwise we  
have no requirements. Volunteers are kept confidential so status is  
not an issue.  If you are outside the metropolitan New York area, we  
can train you by phone.  Right now, we are using one 8-hour shift per  
week for each volunteer, but would like to either cut this back or  
have more than one volunteer on at the same time. Calls are  
automatically routed to your cell-phone. If you are interested,  
please contact us.



This system really works. Here’s the story of our first successful  
foiling of an ICE raid:



Thursday night, at 6 PM, a woman called the hotline from her home in  
Elizabeth , saying that ICE agents were outside, demanding to be let  
in. The RRN phone volunteer reassured the woman that she had a right  
not to let the ICE agents in without a search warrant. Although the  
agents were waving various papers around through the window, they did  
not show any such warrant. The owner of the house was also brought to  
the phone and assured that she too had the right not to admit the ICE  
agents. The woman called her husband, warning him not to come home  
until the agents had gone. After some 20 minutes, the ICE agents gave  
up. No one was detained and the Hotline worked as intended. Thanks to  
the phone volunteer!



We hope soon such hotlines will be covering every part of the US !
