[Marxism] ACN: Anti-War Protests in US Cities Wednesday

(Here in New York I attended a small protest at the army recruiting
center at Times square and 42nd street in the afternoon. It must have
had 30 or so people, in the middle of the work day. Perhaps ten from
a pro-war group counterpicketed there directly in front of the small
recruiting center.)

Anti-War Protests in US Cities Wednesday

Havana, March 19 (acn) A series of anti-war demonstrations are set for
Wednesday in the United States on the fifth anniversary of the invasion
of Iraq.

Large crowds of people opposing the war are expected in Washington, New
York, Miami, Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco, Granma Newspaper
reported.

The Moveon.org organization has planned candlelight vigils in more than
850 locations around the country, including one near the White House
to "commemorate the sacrifices too many families have made, and the
billions of dollars wasted in Iraq that could have been better invested
at home.â

According to the Moveon campaign dubbed âFive years too manyâ, some 660
local initiatives are expected throughout the country, posted on the
United for Peace and Justice website. These include marches, visits to
members of Congress, civil disobedience and sit-ins.

In New York, the Granny Peace Brigade planned a âknit-inâ protest in
front of a military recruitment center in Times Square where they will
knit stump socks for amputee veterans and blankets for the Iraqi babies,
reported AFP.

"We grannies hope to highlight our message demanding an end to this
useless and catastrophic war," said Barbara Walker, 74, among the
group's members arrested in 2005 in Chicago when trying to enlist in the
US Army.
