Re: [Marxism] Obama's speech and a revolutionary strategy for U.S. unions today

Eli writes, about Obama mania <<There is no "movement" as in some kind of
independent or even dependent group which shows any evidence of lasting past
the election, so how one is going to be in a "discussion with the 'Yes We
Can' crowd" without joining your local Democratic Party is an open
question.>>

There is no independent social movement. Like, duh...

Insofar as one can speak of a "movement," it is entirely within the
framework of this election campaign.

Yet, there is plenty of MOTION for anyone who has eyes to see and ears to
hear. Something IS HAPPENING here.

Eli further cautions me, "The 'Yes We Can' crowd at the moment is focussed
on one thing and one thing only - electing Barack Obama. Only in passing are
they thinking about what kind of change we want, and as far as 'how' to
bring about that change, most of them, despite what Obama himself may have
to say, are counting on voting for him and other Democrats as the beginning
and end of the 'how.'"

Yet it is sparking a different consciousness. A consciousness that something
is deeply wrong, that a big change is needed, and that lots and lots of
people are for that change. Nothing is easier than to stand aside from
historical processes because they haven't gone nearly far enough and are
quite imperfect and contradictory to boot.

As to how to be in discussions with the "yes we can" crowd without joining
the local Democratic Party, look around at your friends, neighbors,
coworkers.

My experience has been that I am surrounded by them.

Joaquin
