Do you think the Obama base does not know that Gaza is a prison camp? Do you 
think 
no one knows that Obama voted against the indiscriminate use of cluster bombs 
while Clinton
voted for it?

Obama will be outfunded and shouted down if there is not an active movement 
ready
to respond to the overwhelming flak to which a reformer would be subject. We can
blame Obama all we want for the absence of even the minimally progressive 
measures
we saw taken against the terrorist apartheid state of South Africa. But he is 
not the problem.


The problem is that there is nothing similar to the anti-apartheid movement.  
Obama
is not the reason for that absence. I see no evidence that he would not speak 
to and even
with many aspects of  such a movement, should it arise. He did after all vote 
to limit
the sale by the Pentagon to the State of Israel of much valued weaponry. Why 
this almost
stealth legislative activity gets no recognition is a bit weird, frankly since 
people here
know about it. 

To say that he's not worth voting for is absurd; he is certainly not going to 
make
things worse than McCain or Clinton would. 

And I do think  that he is correct that Israeli policy is not what motivated 
Osama's al Qaeda; that
reactionary and murderous organization was not created in response to Israeli 
settlements.
The kind of radical Wahhibism it represents is well funded, and thus able to 
corrupt and harden other forms
of Islam, including the Indonesian ones with which Obama has familiarity. I am 
sure he has no empathy for
 this form of Islam in particular.
