Of course the FSLN was wrong. They admitted this themselves. But one
thing to keep in mind is that the Kosovars had a lot more autonomy
than either the Miskitos or the Palestinians. The situation
deteriorated because of poor economic conditions brought on by the
secession of the Croats and Slovenes who resented having to fund
Kosovar development. The more wealthy republics sought to become part
of the West and the Serbs were left holding the bag. If Kosovar
discontent had manifested itself in some kind of socialist fashion,
there would have been some possibilities for a positive outcome, even
though that would have remained remote given the terrible collapse of
the Titoist system. But instead the KLA looked to the West as well.
It saw its fate as entwined with that of NATO, the IMF and all the
other crooks and murderers. Birds of a feather flock together.
