(It certainly looks like the Russians have learned the lesson 
that people don't like liberators who come bearing bayonets. 
After all, they do have some exeperience with war in Afghanistan, 
don't they?)

No Russian Troops to Afghanistan

Moscow, Mar 15 (Prensa Latina) Russia denied versions spread by
western media over alleged plans to send troops to Afghanistan,
according to a diplomatic sources' declaration here.

"We sent our soldiers to that country twice and we have had enough
experience, that's why the issue is completely closed for Moscow,"
emphasized a Russian diplomat in declarations to Interfax agency..

He reiterated that in his opinion there would not be any exchange
with NATO, making reference to alleged negotiations with the
alliance, contrary to press versions.

Western media speculates that Moscow could commit itself to sending
troops to Afghanistan in return for a NATO refusal to allow Ukraine
and Georgia entrance to the Western military bloc

Moscow was opposed, along with other UN Security Council members like
China, Germany and France, to the US and Great Britain aggression
against Afghanistan in 2001.
