Re: [Marxism] Theocracy

James Daly wrote:

<Contrary to John Stuart Mill, who said humanity would be brought
about by the bourgeoisie giving
incentives to naturally selfish people to behave "socially", Marx
said that
to bring about human behaviour the working-class must create a human
environment. (Towards the end of his life he was looking at the
potentialities of Russian and other agricultural communes).>

Part of the problem with this transference of theological eschatology
to social being has to do with the fact, recounted multiple times in
accurate ethnographies, that the working class hardly ever seems up
to the task of taking god's place. In fact, the working class more
resembles the broken sinner than the shining saint, buffeted so
thoroughly by the blows of capitalism that it has no real hope of
collectively transcending actually existing circumstances.
