Colombian president Álvaro Uribe got up from his seat and extended his
hand to his Ecuadorean counterpart Rafael Correa, who esponded to the
gesture, although he still replied, ?The problem isn?t resolved with an
embrace, accept international mediation in order to resolve the problem of
the FARC.?

A Reconciliation with little credibility

The Rio summit had an unhoped for conclusion: minutes earlier, Álvaro
Uribe walked across the floor to try to embrace a more than dignified
President Rafael Correa, who, impelled by the atmosphere of generalized
hypocrisy prevailing in the room, ceded to the impulse and hailed this
aggressor against his people and assassin of Comandante Raul Reyes and
twenty of his companions. Then, Uribe repreated the show with Comandante
Hugo Chavez and finally ended by clasping hands with President Daniel
Ortega.
