Perhaps, but it has backfired in my view. Britain's involvement in both
occupations is widely unpopular with most people, though unfortunately that
unpopularity has failed to transmute into activism with the stop war movement
in a
parlous state after five years.

We've had this discussion before, but I for one applaud those who've made
their views known to service personnel. This will hopefully demoralise them,
get
them thinking about what it is they are doing.

I am of the view that to obey and order is to endorse it and to me the
presence of British troops in both Afghanistan and Iraq, including that of good
old
jolly-japes himself, Prince Harry, is no better than the presence of Nazi
troops in occupied Europe during the Second World War.

Finally, going back to the state of the antiwar movement in the UK, it is a
sad indictment of the movement's leadership that after five years of activism
one solitary protester, in the shape of Brian Haw, has proved much more of a
thorn in the side of the British government than the so-called mass movement.

Time for a change in tactics perhaps?
